WIDER BULK BILLING AND AFTER HOURS GPs

Payroll tax exemptions for GPs and other tax concessions for clinics would allow for WIDER BULK BILLING, so Canberrans don't have to think about money to visit their GP. Running a GP practice entails a lot of expenses. The classification of GPs as payroll employees adds to the financial pressure to run their practices. This translates into less available bulk billing, simply because it is not financially viable to run a practice. Abolishing the payroll tax classification for GPs and providing other financial facilities for practices, would contribute to WIDER RETURN to bulk billing. EVERYONE HAS THE RIGHT TO SEEK MEDICAL ATTENTION WITHOUT FINANCIAL WORRY. This will also ease pressure on emergency rooms.

Another effective strategy to alleviate emergency room congestion is establishing after-hours bulk-billed GP practices. These practices would provide accessible care during evenings and weekends, allowing patients to seek treatment for non-emergency issues without waiting in the emergency department. Implementing a triage system can help direct patients to the appropriate level of care, ensuring that only those with genuine emergencies go to the emergency rooms. Collaborating with local hospitals can streamline referrals and ensure continuity of care for patients who may need follow-up treatment.

AFFORDABLE DENTAL CARE

DENTAL CARE IS A RIGHT not a privilege. Members of our community are struggling with the high cost of living as it is. Middle income families are often left, neglecting their teeth. They neither have access to ACT Public Dental Clinics, nor afford costly private dentists fees.

A comprehensive approach that includes increasing funding for public dental programs to include those on middle income and affordable dental services is a must. This could take the shape of subsidized dental plans, sliding scale fees based on income, and partnerships with local dental practices to offer reduced-cost services. By making dental care more affordable, we can significantly improve health outcomes for individuals who might otherwise forgo necessary treatment.
