Pay rise and better working conditions for essential workers

Our nurses, teachers, childcare educators, as well as aged care and disability support workers are the backbone of our community, providing critical services that ensure our society functions effectively and our vulnerable members are looked after.

As we recognize their valuable contributions, it’s imperative that we advocate for substantial support and improvements in their working conditions.

First and foremost, our essential workers deserve competitive salaries that reflect their skills, dedication, and the demanding nature of their work. I will push for pay rises that not only attract new talent but also retain experienced workers. Implementing financial incentives will further acknowledge their commitment and encourage them to continue providing high quality care services.

The working conditions for our essential workers must be addressed to foster a supportive and sustainable environment. This includes ensuring manageable workloads, reasonable hours, and access to resources that promote their physical and mental wellbeing. By advocating for better workplace policies, we can reduce burnout and increase job satisfaction among these vital professionals.

Improving the ratio of nurse to patient, teacher to student, childcare educator to child, as well as disability and aged care support worker to client is crucial for delivering quality care and education. Adequate staffing levels will allow professionals to give everyone the attention they deserve, leading to better outcomes for patients and service users. I will support policies aimed at establishing and enforcing these ratios, ensuring that our essential workers can perform their roles effectively without being stretched too thin.
