An Enhanced Bus Network initiative 

 

Improving our public transportation system is a top priority, especially as our communities continue to grow. An Enhanced Bus Network initiative would focus on expanding and upgrading our bus services, including in rapidly developing areas.

 

Increased Frequency and Coverage

 

We will implement more frequent bus services throughout the week, especially during peak hours, to reduce wait times and improve accessibility.

This entails extended routes that connect key areas, including within Molonglo Valley, to major employment centers, educational institutions, and recreational facilities.

A free, dedicated, improved school buses network

 

When students have reliable access to buses, they are less likely to be late to school due to transportation issues, leading to better academic performance and overall engagement.

An enhanced dedicated school bus network helps parents feel more assured that their children are safe when taking a bus to school.

 

Encouraging public transportation use by offering free school buses helps instill a sense of public transportation use among younger generations, which can promote lifelong habits of using public transport, reducing reliance on personal vehicles and fostering a culture of sustainability.

 

Furthermore, free dedicated school bus services reduces the number of cars on the road can help decrease traffic congestion and lower greenhouse gas emissions. This contributes to a cleaner environment and a healthier community.

 

Weekend and Public Holiday Services

 

Community members that don’t own a car, or are unable to drive should not be made to feel excluded from participating in weekend activities. I heard stories from members of our community, expressing disappointment at the fact that weekend and public holidays bus services are very limited. Some of our community members cannot drive due to medical reasons or being on medications. They then either stay home, feeling isolated, or need to rely on family or friends, which can be inconvenient and can make them feel dependent.

 

Understanding the importance of social and recreational activities, I will advocate to introduce frequent bus services on weekends and public holidays.

 

This change will encourage residents to explore local attractions, visit family and friends, and participate in community events without the hassle of parking or driving. This will help people who cannot drive and rely on public transport for commuting to feel engaged with their community

 

Real-time Tracking and Information

 

To enhance the user experience, we will invest in technology that provides real-time tracking of buses. Passengers will have access to up-to-date information via mobile apps and digital displays at bus stops, making it easier to plan their journeys and minimize wait times.

 

By enhancing our bus network, we aim to create a more connected, accessible, and enjoyable transportation experience for all residents.

 

This initiative not only supports our growing population but also fosters a vibrant community where public transport plays a crucial role in daily life. Together, we can build a reliable and efficient public transportation system that meets the needs of everyone in our community
